Patients with clinical indications related to controlling instability, inversion & eversion including:

  1. Chronic ankle instabilities

  2. Patients diagnosed with posterior tibial tendon dysfunction

  3. Athletes with an injured ankle or at high risk for injury

  4. Severe Pes Planus (flat foot, if a UCBL has failed)

  5. Some forms of arthritis


Custom fabricated by Townsend Design’s orthotists and technicians from a cast mold or leg scan. The shells are prepreg carbon graphite formed to the patient model. The hinges are carbon graphite, with delrin inserts for limiting or fixating inversion and eversion.

Ordering Options

  1. Shell height -- nine to 13 inches on the sides

  2. Polypro (standard) or carbon graphite foot plate

  3. Foot plate length -- heel cup, proximal to the metatarsal heads, or toe sulcus

  4. Posterior or anterior shell

  5. Dorsi assist bands added to joints

  6. Open or closed heel

  7. Textured powdercoat colors, optional high gloss or custom paint finish

Townsend’s ultra lightweight, low profile custom Premier Ankle Brace features carbon graphite shells and joints. The rigid superstructure provides the ultimate foot/ankle support. Adjustable joint inserts allow the fitter to restrict inversion and/or eversion motion -- without any limitation to normal plantarflexion and dorsiflexion motion. Additional options include an anterior shell design and dorsi assist bands.
